DR. JARED BURD

Dr. Nicole Maierhoffer was born and raised in Emerald Park, Saskatchewan. She attended the University of Regina where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with Distinction. She then went on to obtain her Doctorate of Optometry degree with Highest Honours from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University with a certificate in Advanced Studies in Contact Lenses. 

After graduation, Dr. Maierhoffer completed a residency in low vision and vision rehabilitation at the William Feinbloom Vision Rehabilitation Center, where she gained additional experience in ocular disease while working with patients with visual impairments. 

Dr. Maierhoffer's clinical training includes diagnosis and management of ocular disease, specialty contact lens fitting, pediatric and geriatric eye exams as well as comprehensive primary care optometry. During her external clinical rotations, she trained at numerous hospitals throughout the United States, including the prestigious Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, the IHS hospital in Harlem, Montana, and the Providence Veterans Affairs Hospital in Rhode Island, where she focused specifically on specialty contact lenses, low vision, primary eye care and ocular disease. She also interned at an ophthalmology practice in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania and the low vision clinic at The Eye Institute in Philadelphia. 

Dr. Maierhoffer is also involved in many leadership activities and volunteering. While in optometry school, Dr. Maierhoffer was the president of the Student Optometric Service to Humanity (SOSH), where she had the opportunity to travel to El Salvador twice to provide eye care in the local villages. Dr. Maierhoffer is a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Honours Society and has been since her first year of optometry school. She was also a member of Gold Key Honours Society.  She participated in numerous vision screenings and glaucoma screenings in the Philadelphia community including volunteering with the Special Olympics and currently is the Clinical Director for the Opening Eyes Program through the Special Olympics here in Saskatchewan. 

Dr. Maierhoffer loves keeping busy with her twin daughters and her husband, Dr. Jared Burd!

 

Dr. Jared Burd was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He attended St. Francis University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Biology with a minor in Neuroscience, Chemistry and Mathematics.  He then went on to obtain his Doctorate of Optometry degree with Clinical Honours from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. 

After graduation, Dr. Burd completed a residency in Primary Care with an emphasis on ocular disease, gaining invaluable experience managing conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.  He also had the opportunity to work closely with ophthalmologists in anterior segment (cataract), oculoplastics, glaucoma and retina service.

During his external clinical rotations, he had the opportunity to train at hospitals throughout the United States, including Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia and the Providence Veterans Affairs Hospital in Rhode Island.  He also worked in a pediatric and binocular vision clinic in Charleston, South Carolina, where he focused specifically on vision therapy.  Dr. Burd also earned experience at a private practice in Greensburg, Pennsylvania where he focused on specialty contact lens fits including gas permeable, astigmatism and scleral contact lenses.  Dr. Burd also interned at the low vision clinic at The Eye Institute in Philadelphia. 

Prior to moving to Canada, Dr. Burd practiced in Sidney, Montana where he was involved in the community, sitting on the Foundation for Community Care Board of Directors.  Dr. Burd is a member of the American Optometric Association, Canadian Association of Optometrists, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.  He has participated in numerous vision and glaucoma screenings and is actively involved as a volunteer with the Special Olympics Healthy Eyes program.

In his spare time, Dr. Burd enjoys spending time with his twin daughters, family and friends and is thrilled to join to his wife, Dr. Nicole Maierhoffer, to serve the community of Regina. He welcomes all patients!
